Zero-Knowledge made waves with its first version of Freedom, which was a hit with privacy wonks, cryptogeeks and cypherpunks at $50 a pop. Now they've beefed it up and are giving it away, with a few choice features available in a premium version.
The free Standard version features:
- a personal firewall (software that blocks unauthorized attempts to enter your computer system)
- Zero-Knowledge's Cookie Jar cookie manager, to help you track and manage Internet browser cookie files that Web sites use to track you online
- an automatic form-filler that saves your information so you can fill out online forms with one click of your mouse
- a keyword alert that tells you when you are about to send out sensitive information, like your name, credit card number, telephone number, or address
- an ad manager to control ads on Web sites that slow down page load times
The $50 Premium version adds:
- encrypted e-mail that Zero-Knowledge says is untraceable
- pseudonymous chat and Internet surfing to mask your true identity so not even Zero-Knowledge can tell who you are
