Sony IT-ID80 Caller ID speakerphone [3]

Sony IT-ID80 Caller ID speakerphone - 1/4 view

Within three months of use, a low-level but annoying crackle of static was audible when using the telephone receiver. The source of the problem appears to be the cord that extends from the telephone base to the receiver. While the problem can be solved by purchasing a new cord, this problem should not occur after such a short period of time with a new product.

The receiver's earpiece rests in a cup-shaped cradle on the base unit, while the mouthpiece rests on the phone's surface. This design allows the mouthpiece to slide and inadvertently be knocked off the hook with relative ease. A more secure cradle is in order.

A significant problem is that it is extremely easy to accidentally clear the caller memory when one intends to erase a single record. A two-button Erase control would be helpful in avoiding this problem.

As mentioned earlier, the telephone is not full duplex, or the ability for both parties on each end of the line to simultaneously hear what the other is saying. For a 'prosumer' speakerphone the IT-ID80 should have full duplex functionality.
